If this time of spiritual reflection is spoilt by caffeine-withdrawal headaches, take the following advice from headache specialist Dr Elliot Shevel to heart. 

Take action:
To prevent caffeine-withdrawal headache, reduce caffeine consumption in the weeks preceding the month of Ramadan and drink a cup of strong coffee just before the start of the fast for the day; eat a meal with a low sugar content before the fast to prevent a sudden spike and subsequent drop in blood sugar levels; drink enough fluid before the onset of the fast to prevent dehydration; try to avoid stress; and get enough sleep.
